In 1995, Bickel & Brewer undertook the development of a unit in Hyderabad, India, I&A International, to provide imaging and abstracting services for the firm's clients by commissioning one of the most sophisticated computer-based document information archiving and retrieval systems in the world. Traditionally, firms utilizing document imaging and indexing services have relied on third-party vendors to handle the task. Bickel & Brewer recognized an opportunity to improve not only the speed and quality of these types of services, but also the cost to the firm's clients, utilizing the large pool of highly educated, English-speaking, and low-cost labor in India. Today, I&A handles the abstracting and editing of thousands of documents per week for the firm's clients, at a substantially lower cost than is available in the United States.
